Two Shy Girls from a Domestic Abuse Case Find the Perfect Home

At Maine Coons & More, we commit ourselves to finding the perfect forever home for each cat we rescue, and we looked long and hard for the perfect home for these two cats. Two of twenty seven cats surrendered as a result of a domestic abuse case, these two girls were shy and needed a very particular forever home - and we found it!

After a string of cats with poor health conditions passed through her life, my grandmother was growing weary of the heartache it brought.  We had all suffered a great amount of loss over the past year and a half on top of this, with the family business and her house catching fire, which displaced her for a year.  Now, back in her home, my father and I plotted to surprise her with a new furry friend.  While she initially protested, she kept cat food in the cupboard and a box of cat toys around just in case.

She had previously had a larger cat and we thought a Maine Coon would be perfect.  After checking around we applied to Maine Coons & More and everyone we talked to was so nice and eager to help.  We were introduced to Freckles and she was just beautiful.  After some messaging back and forth, we were told Freckles had a sister, Georgie, who was a bit more timid but would blossom if she could come to a nice quiet home.  Why not?!

Sarah helped us surprise my grandmom and she was over the moon.  She had told us that the girls are a bit scared and it will take them several weeks to get acclimated.  Also, she said that most likely, Georige would never be a “lap cat.”  Within the first day, they were both on the bed with my grandmom - so much for several weeks!  Now, almost
2 months later, Freckles is the welcoming committee when anyone comes in the house with her quiet meows.  Georgie is still a little stand-offish when there are guests in the house, but very much wants to be involved with everyone and even flops over to show her belly.  My grandmom couldn’t be happier – thank you so much letting these girls be a part of our lives!

Bane Found his Forever Home

I had the best experience with my adoption process through Maine Coons & More. When I reached out to the rescue regarding whether or not there were any kittens available, I was told about (my now kitty) Bane. They were very honest and said he was a little kitty crazy and sometimes a bit too playful with other cats. I then explained that my cat is a bit crazy as well, and clearly was becoming bored in my house without having another cat to play with. After talking about both of their crazy personalities, we decided they may be the perfect fit. They are now inseparable and are totally perfect for each other!

I REALLY appreciated the fact that Sarah took so much time talking to me about whether or not my home would be a good fit for Bane. There are so many animals in need of new homes, and rescues are often desperate to make room to save more animals. They could have easily jumped at the chance to place him in a home regardless of his personality. I was so glad to see that this rescue truly cares about the well-being of their pets. Sarah made it very clear to me that if it did not work out with Bane and my other cat, I could bring him back to her where he would be safe. I could not be happier with my experience!!
